My take is because the manhole is round.

The mouth of the 'hole' could be easily square, actually making a square shape is perhaps easier - since laying concrete is easier in straight lines.

So, most probably the shape of the cast iron cover (circular), drove the shape of mouth of the hole.

The is has a mess load of mic under the ocean, that's how they knew it sunk

I think this varies wildly. I know if a few Rockstar managers that get paid higher than their individual contributors. If they have a proven track record of getting their team to perform and ship product.

Sure, which is why I used a ratio to describe the difference. There are indeed a lot of managers who make a lot more than their direct reports. It is not always true. Base salaries would most likely have a higher cap than IC’s, stock grants are based on how replaceable you are within the organisation, then annual bonuses are usually based on the company annual results, your business impact (and a percentage of your base salary) which is why managers usually get higher bonuses. I agree it varies a lot since not all companies offer RSU’s, annual bonuses, etc.

As a previous hiring manager, it's easy to getting stuck in the mindset that when you are doing shitty things for that faceless Corp that it isn't you doing that shitty thing, it's you doing what the Corp wants. It's hard to have the presence of mind to realize you are doing something for a entity that rarely is moral, but many times is amoral or even immoral

I agree with everything that has been said by the other two. I find that all the politics I engage in are for the benefit of my people. You will have two major types of peers. Those who want to build an empire, or those who want to help people grow.

You can easily find out those that empire build because they will throw you and even their own team under the bus.

If you are growing your employees, look for others that do so. Follow what they do.

There are a lot of professional development courses that you can take to learn more, but a lot of it is on the job training.

I love tech, but I found the fact that people are always changing a much more fulfilling role to me.
