What do you consider to be large and infrequent? I see so many micro-commits that I start to wonder if some competition is going on...

Well you have to be full of the exact right kind of BS, with lightly understated confidence, and mostly certainty about what your social-peers proper place in society is.

Visiting the US from Europe in 1986 for the first time, it felt like a vibrant place, well ahead. New York was amazing.

In 2006 I was shocked when visiting family on the east coast to hear that acquaintances there expected me to obviously want to immigrate, get a green card, etc. At the time the US from my POV was already an extremely iffy broken place.

In 2016, and that is, before the elections, nobody was assuming this anymore.

Now I get asked how best to move away.

There is no need to move, but grow a spine and stand up to broken leadership.

It takes 6 minutes for a fighter jet to cross the whole of the longest possible stretch of Swiss territory. How many defense missiles for the price of one F35?

if your enemy is flying over your territory the bombs have already dropped, you need to intercept them at range and have some leeway on top because missiles aren't guaranteed to hit and you have to have time to decide to send a second wave of missiles

so you are (as a non-NATO-member) defending your territory by effectively moving combat to the area of the most powerful military alliance there is today (heck, even Germany, where the army is in a, uuuhm, "sorry" state still has an air force comparable in size to countries like Saudi Arabia (which are smaller, but spend excessively on military)).

The only possible attackers then are either NATO states (which are largely democratic and "civilized" so that the people wouldn't tolerate a surprise attack on another "white"-country) or some foes attacking NATO. In both cases they are screwed anyway and unless they decide to attack NATO with an outside foe, I'd be glad to see some American made, Swiss-flown CAP over Europe (which, sincerely is the most likely outcome if Switzerland really is democratic and not just a safe haven for corrupt elites).

How is informing users of some true fact not protected by the first amendment. How is this not free speech?

First amendment applies to the US Government, not Apple, but it is a free speech issue in principle.

I strongly suspect this is actually not a free speech issue, and just boils down to contract law. Akin to an NDA.

Well no, building a dam fully destroys a valley's ecosystem. A point of comparison: Chernobyl also has a new ecosystem around it, where re-adaptation has occurred. We know the radioactivity is too high around it for a 21st century's human lifespan of ~80 years. Boars and birds are having a ball. Does it not follow that your accepting the environmental damage from a dam means also that you accept the environmental damage from an early generation fission clusterfuck?

Ok, does that mean that we should drain the Great Lakes so we can "restore" them as valleys with their own ecosystem? (supposing that we could make them off limits to building, so Chicago and Gary and other cities on what are now lakes couldn't encroach; and never mind that we don't know what they were like before the glaciers carved them out, or if they were even valleys back then) Would that be better in some objective way?

Some of the dams affect a wider area than the Chernobyl exclusion zone.

Very informative thank you. From this rebuttal I see that the movie probably packages true information, some of it outdated, in a provocative way. The only fully scientific rebuttal is to run the experiment: run the whole economy without fossil fuels or nuclear, and see how much it looks like the middle-ages, how much it looks like utopia. My guess is 80/20 on the middle-ages side, but who know.

This is the presentation Raoult gave yesterday, publication is coming next week. https://youtu.be/n4J8kydOvbc Link to the powerpoint. Please don't kill the IHU's servers though: it's all in french. https://www.mediterranee-infection.com/wp-content/uploads/20...

1. The video is linked in the article.

2. The linked PDF is just a generic presentation about COVID-19 testing.

I believe the 6th and last slides are the result of their own testing and experiments.

I think you have to watch the video to understand why he is going through other published results on that virus. I understand he is pushing the idea that instead of telling people who feel sick to self isolate and only call a hospital (and get tested) if they have respiratory problems, to instead test them early, and if the are positive, provide them with anti-viral treatments. That way the patient is contagious for less than a week instead of 3 weeks on average.

If so, that's about as far away from reporting the results of a successful clinical trial as you can get.

The article is fake.

Very scary. I can only assume that Ecuadorians will pursue this further.

Why Ecuadorians? This is American company destroying other countries.

Stuff like this is the reason when the west cries about China silk road initiative most of the countries don't care as Western countries have been exploiting their resources for years what difference does it make if China does it.

Well, if China can exploit one more person, it makes a difference to that person.

Correction, it is not the west as a single entity. Big western nations have tried exploiting other smaller western nations.

In my native Norway I know several cases of this. When it became possible to utilize hydro-electric power, British businessmen would travel around the country and get farmers owning waterfalls drunk. Then they would get them to sign contracts handing over the waterfall to them.

Same deal when Norway found oil. American oil companies tried hard to screw us over. They put in a lot of pressure and played dirty games. Fortunately our leader at the time Einar Gerhardsen was high skeptical of big capital and a self proclaimed democratic socialist.

They bid their time instead of getting sucked into a one sided deal. In fact the system we managed to put in place to fight big multinationals trying to exploit our resources impressed the Chinese. So I believe Deng Xiaoping sent a delegation to Norway. China had in the past suffered from companies from great western powers owning everything in China. The Chinese wanted to learn from us how we had manage to let in foreign capital and expertise while keeping national control.

So some of the systems in China with joint ventures etc was inspired by systems setup in Norwegian oil industry to protect Norwegian interests. Any small nation western or otherwise is vulnerable to exploitation by large rich nations.

Today China itself is frequently twisting our arm.

I am sure they would if they had money to and if they could find a Lawyers willing to risk disbarment and financial ruin.
