"I saw her at the library" is firsthand testimony.
"I saw her library card in her pocket" is firsthand testimony.
"She was at the library - Bob told me so" is hearsay. Just look at the word - "hear say". Hearsay is testifying about events where your knowledge does not come from your own firsthand observations of the event itself.
And how much grift happens through Android side loading? (BTW, I hate that weasel word used to vilify a perfectly reasonable activity.) Practically all grift on Android happens through apps on the Play Store. People who know how to 'side load' are also usually careful and smart enough to think about what they're putting in. That's not a useful target for grifts either.
As somebody put it, Google goes after others without cleaning their own house first. It's just abuse of power at this point.
F-Droid at least does a quick review to make sure there's nothing malicious in the app before adding it. Since we know Google does something similar and there is still malware on the Play Store one might reasonably conclude that Google doesn't actually care about malware.
Now, it might be a problem of vetting at scale or malware being really subtle, but if that's the case Google should focus on improving their process before locking down Android for "security".
Right, but the Debian Developers don't prevent you from installing (installing, not "sideloading") other programs. If you want to install malware you're free to, but they don't distribute it.
My point is that Google does not want to protect users by restricting "side loading". If they actually wanted that, they would remove all the malware in their store. They are just building higher walls in the walled garden to lock you in.
You can still install any ROM you want. Not having Play Store has some downsides, but those trades offs should be familiar to a free software enthusiast.
You can only do this on a tiny number of devices supporting free drivers (and mainline kernel), otherwise you are tied to an ancient Linux kernel. I'm using Librem 5 btw and don't believe that Android, whose development completely depends on Google, is a viable long-term solution.
The network port is faster than the CDVD drive or any of those accessories with the exception of the HDD. The ethernet PHY links at 100Mbit, but the processors inside the PS2 are not really capable of pushing that speed, the best I ever saw when installing games over the network with a hyper-optimized IP stack (on the IOP, IIRC) was something like 5MiB/s.
The HDD is the fastest form of I/O one can use on the PS2. It might not even need to be modified - depending on how well it's coded, it may be possible to run this software via Open PS2 Loader, which will replace CDVDMAN with a custom version that will access USB/ETH/HDD (and as mentioned in sibling comments, USB on the PS2 is version 1.1 and is much slower than even the CDVD drive).
Both network and HDD will also greatly minimize the cost of seeking the CDVD, which may be an issue depending on how the CD is laid out. CD access is up to 24x, DVD-ROM access is at 4x. DVD is thus slightly faster, and can be further increased by pushing the used data to the edge of the disc via a dummy file (traditionally, developers and game modders used Sony's own CD/DVD Generator software to determine the order of files being added to the disc, thus allowing the boot files to come first, followed by the dummy file, then any data files that need the extra speed).

Perhaps the temporary boost can be used in such a way to effect change that lasts? Sometimes all a person needs is something small to change how their brain is processing things, and with structure perhaps that can be leveraged.
But then again, many people think that all brains work the same, and this underlies 99% of the failings of mental health care.
How is that hearsay if she's directly testifying to her own whereabouts?
Hearsay would be if someone else was testifying "she was in X location on july 10th between 3 and 4pm", without the accused being available for cross
