You'll need to use an Apple device to view this stream. -iOS 4.2+ -Safari on OSX -Apple TV

Off topic, but your post tweaked my brain's processing. I read those not as bullet points, but as a boolean search.

"It needs to be an Apple device, but not iOS, not Safari on OSX, and not an Apple TV."

I was trying to figure out what Apple Devices were left for a second before it clicked ;)

In the past I've been able to get around this requirement by getting the stream directly. If today's anything like previous events, should be able to use these URLs to open in VLC (the URLs will change when the stream goes live):

If you are using Chrome press F12 to open the devtools. Then press Esc and to to the "Emulation" tab. now choose an iPad or something and spoof your user agent as that.

it's dumb, but i think that should work. You will need to have QuickTime installed though, I don't think there's a way around that.

Apple fan here, but this doesn't make sense at all. Foolish and arrogant.

Same here. I'm doing some iOS development on Ubuntu right now because I was having issues with my new monitor in OS X. Guess I gotta reboot into the OS X partition and take a break from having my new monitor.

But hey, it's nice to sit on the couch.

Or there are some live talkings http://www.ustream.tv/leolaporte

Is that a thing; people talking over the presentation?

Is there a stream for Linux users? (without vm)

I've got it working by downloading the referenced mov-file, with the QuickTime UserAgent, and opening it in VLC:

    $ curl -A QuickTime/7.6.2 -O http://p.events-delivery.apple.com.edgesuite.net/14poiunaeporfnsvpobjuanefvpjb6a/refs/14pijbefvoihbfva6_sl_ref.mov

You could use a liveblog like every other year.

I'm certain there will be people on UStream and livestream doing mirrors.

Yes, this upsets me a bit. I like to watch live product announcements.

Apple does user agent sniffing? Is Safari becoming the next IE?

I'd consider something like that, and probably wouldn't be scared away from the process of just buying the book.

I'd have to agree with this too. I have seen a few book packages presented in this way and once I get to the sales page I have been put off.

I think like you, I don't mind paying $30 for a book. I was actually considering buying this before clicking through. It's just very off putting seeing that I'm missing out.

While they're entitled to do that, wouldn't it have made sense to boycott long ago when Eich helped found Mozilla?

Sounds like it only came out the Brendan Eich was homophobic when he recently supported overturning Prop 8.

Doesn't that predate his donation?

While it does, the donation was made 6 years ago. He has been CEO for less than a week. At the time he was CTO.

Tried this app out a few days ago. The measurements in it are surprisingly good. I was finding it about ~10% out at most.

All in all, it is a very good (FREE!) app that can be used to get a decent idea of what might be needed in home renovation.

I had the opposite experience. It seemed really finicky about how smoothlyI had to move my tablet from one wall to the next .

Yeah, I couldn't really get it to work either. The preview seemed to be more or less accurate, but it wasn't able to generate the layout. I was trying to double tap to modify the dimensions manually, but it looks like the free version doesn't allow for it. I guess it's a hit or miss.
