Does anyone care? Pros and cons? I guess it makes it easier for people to 'like' more controversial stuff and not get dragged across the coals for it... Lots of people (like Musk) get called out for 'liking' stuff others disagree with.

I think it’s good, I’m not all like “cancel culture argghh!!” But there is some like base level of privacy we should all assume on the internet, and some of these voyeuristic features are just weird. If Musk wants to like some sexy hentai I don’t think anyone needs to know about that, and like other examples— Why does Venmo have a newsfeed?

I honestly think it's unlikely that people on a public forum would admit to excluding candidates due to personal prejudices.

Why? People simply create throwaways for that.

Does Yugabyte actually contribute to Postgres or just use their code?

Yes, everything Yugabyte does is open source

Open sourcing the changes doesn't mean contributing back to PostgreSQL: Someone has to put in effort to push changes into upstream PostgreSQL, and if it's not Yugabyte, then IMO they're not contributing back.

Second this experience absolutely! A couple of years ago I had a similar experience. I was so annoyed having burnt a ton of time going through a number of rounds, submitted an essay, and then giving an extensive presentation only to get a cold, bland, automated rejection email. Terrible interview experience and enough for me to put peers off applying to the company if they asked me. Ironically they are still advertising to fill that same job two years later.

A cheap phone stand for my desk, saves me putting it down in a random place and then losing it. Also a MASSIVE thermos cup that I can fill with ice and water and doesn't need refilling all day.

I found this fascinating. Although a very different experience, it brought back memories of first getting online as a student in the UK in the 90s and what a miracle that seemed and how genuinely world changing it was.

I thought the same - bit harsh!

Obesity is a risk factor for basically anything that you can be inflicted with.

It impairs your immune system, increase your blood pressure, negatively impact blood circulation, strain your heart, fucks up your hormones, and the list goes on and on and on

Not much has changed since 2009 then...

So true!

I LOVED these books so much as a kid, and my children also love them now. Gorgeous illustrations and just really fun. I believe they were slightly updated in recent years to add more women into jobs other than housewife/mum!

I particularly love the headline "Regular People Needs Rescuing Too" and the change from "Beautiful Screaming Lady" to "cat in danger!"

Surely the original was a tongue-in-cheek reference to the unusually attractive quality of people being rescued in movies, given how many easter eggs and puns he put in. So they sand down all the edges that might offend anyone. I actually think most of the changes are improvements, despite the patronizing tone of the article (GP, not OP) about how more enlightened we are today than back when Scarry made the books, but this is how we get from Susan Kare fun icons to every icon startup/project having blank people with literally no facial features.
