One reason I don't have an electrical-assist bike is that I don't have anywhere to store it that meets the competing demands of (A) secure against theft and (B) decently safe if it catches fire.
Many have detachable batteries - you could get a fire safe bag/cabinet to charge the battery in if that is a worry and store the bike wherever meets your (A) requirements.
In NYC it's hard enough to get people not to call them e-bikes (even when they are gas powered), I've given up on the scooter distinction (which then also becomes ambiguous with what I can only call "kick-scooters", most of which are not kick-powered these days).
