Germans grill Olaf Scholz over soaring cost of doner kebabs (theguardian.com)

Satire publications are having a tough time nowadays.

> Based on the estimated 1.3bn doners that are consumed in the country each year – 400,000 a day in Berlin alone – such a subsidy programme would cost €4bn annually, Die Linke has calculated.

Let me get this straight: The "far-left Die Linke party" wants to subsidize meat eating? You know the thing with the not so great CO2 footprint and animal wellfare issues?

No they want to stop the price increasing

When the transition from DM to Euro was done, a Döner costed 2€. And that was expensive, because pre € it was 3,50DM.

Nowadays I can't even eat it anymore, the meat, once colder is tough and hard to chew. Some kebap stands offer minced meat and you know it's full of bones and other not very appetizing things.

My very 1st was a simple bread, like the ones you can buy in every Turkish shop, minced meat of good quality, lemon (which apparently is no longer a thing) and a very good spicy sauce, so spicy that my eyes would water, just like when you eat good mustard :).

The bread got better, but everything else got worse. And now it's even more expensive than a meal in a restaurant at noon. Maybe good ones do exist but not in my area. And tbh I prefer Gyros anyway, but the only Greek restaurant in town prices it at 18€ a dish, which is ridiculous. And the non-greek "cheap" ones are 8€.

The only places one can eat are either expensive German restaurants or Italian restaurants, which aren't as expensive.

Germans value their manual labor way too much. A Brötchen (small bread) costs 0,60€ (uses to be 0,25€). Cut it in half, add a thin slice of Wurst, 3€. Ridiculous.

And yes Scholz is to blame. Everyone knows the Americans destroyed Nordstream, exposed Germany to expensive US energy imports. And he did nothing. Yeah it was "the Ukrainians". Sure, they were profiting from Nordstream by stealing energy that transitioned through the pipeline. Why would they do it? Especially while the American fleet was in the area.

Germany is lead by a criminal US puppet. Criminal because of the CumEx and CumCum allegations, which won't get examined because he's cancelor. The woman examining them resigned a week or two ago.

The Döner Kebab is just an indicator.

I saw a live stream the other day, from Serbia. A full shopping cart and it all cost 20€ equivalent. In Germany and the rest of the EU you would've paid 200€.

Medicare. There are not enough doctors and they're overworked. Health insurance is expensive and you need to pay on top, despite the monthly payment which costs about as much as an apartment, bit less. My mom, 89, is in pain because of her hip. She needs to be operated. She has to wait 7 months, because she's a 2nd class citizen when it comes to health insurance.

Germany didn't use to be like that 30 years ago. Effectively 32 years of CDU did that. Kohl and Merkel and in between the stab in the back by SPD and Greens, who made worker exploitation possible. Betrayal.

And the political system hasn't changed. Those in power can still do what they please without consequences. They can still promise the world and not deliver. They can still take money from "donors" without any consequences. More so if they're an EU politician.

How much is a kebab in France, Spain ... other EU countries? I'm really curious.

Kebebab can be had for 6-7 euros in baltics, depending where you buy. Can be less outside of major cities, usually that or more in cities/fancier places.

You can also order online and pay silly prices, because the middleman charges a lot.

Our wages are lower, though.
