What a terribly argued article and a thinly veiled attempt to undermine the death with dignity movement. There's absolutely nothing I've encountered worse in life than watching someone suffer out their last days. Let's make sure we do our utmost to prevent terminal illness, but when it comes, as it does for us all, every single one of us should have the right to die with dignity.

do you have any counterpoints to what the article claims?

> It thus falls to proponents of MAiD to show how such deaths can be avoided, just as it falls to policymakers to build or rebuild institutions that ensure no one ever opts to end their life for lack of resources or support, which we could provide in abundance if we choose to.

Where are these abundant resources, in the US or Canada? Non-existent, that's where.

It is absolutely a "feature" of capitalist systems that "economically non-contributing" citizens cannot be supported indefinitely. That goes for every one of us that isn't a cop or firefighter with a huge pension, or didn't get lucky in our 401(k).

I know that the Jacobin is a "Marxist" magazine. But the world has repeatedly tried Marxism, and that didn't go well either.

I don't claim to have an answer. But neither do they. This article is just pointless negativity.

This is kind of inevitable with an ever-expanding universal medical system, combined with a government with no moral bearing
