on Jan 24, 2012 | hide
We're a Palo Alto-based, well-funded pre-Series A start-up looking for awesome engineers to help us build a next generation payments platform that millions of developers and businesses will depend on for their businesses, and millions of consumers will grow to know and trust. If you’re interested in helping us build an extremely valuable, sustainable payments company that consumers will actually love, please read on to see if you’re a good fit.

We want GREAT engineers

We’re primarily a Python (on Linux) shop, but love polyglots (Ruby, JavaScript, Java, C/C++, etc), and welcome engineers of all types as long as they have a knack for solving hard problems. Contact us if you:

- are a respectfully opinionated, pragmatic, and reliable individual who is self-directed and takes pride in their work

- have a strong analytical background (e.g.math, physics, computer science, electrical/computer engineering, hackers of all kind)

- have strong programming experience (i.e. you've actually coded ;))

- are comfortable with SQL and data modeling (i.e. you understand databases)

- don't reinvent the wheel, instead you leverage existing proven libraries and glue them together efficiently to accomplish your tasks

- are comfortable with contributing back to the community through open source

- get shit done. 80% solution is OK for you, but you task yourself to clean up the remaining 20% in your backlog

- are not afraid of speaking your mind, but not afraid of listening either

Bonus points if you

- are comfortable with web API design, adhering to RESTful principles

- are comfortable with OO design and adhere to the Single Responsibility Principle

- love automation, because your time is too valuable to do the same thing over and over again

- have ops/sysadmin experience, ideally with AWS

- Love unit testing, integration testing, and end to end system testing. OK, maybe you don’t love it, but you respect it

About Us

We love developers! We are a small team of developers building a product for other developers, so we take great pride in the code and documentation we produce. We hate the needless complexity that comes from technical masturbation, and always try to strike a balance between speed and quality while maintaining values of excellence. Here’s a bit more about us in bullet-point format:

- Founders were early employees at a start-up that recently had a successful exit.

- We maintain popular open source projects and contribute to open source regularly.

- We pride ourselves on healthy initiatives! We are all active runners, climbers, among many other things. We offer a free gym membership.

- We are less than 10 people and are looking for individuals who can help us solidify our company culture.

We offer benefits, competitive salaries, equity stakes, vacation time, reimbursed commuting, free wifi dongles, a stipend if you live within 1 mile of office, etc.

Our Technologies & Philosophies

- Python is used for almost everything from the web front-end, to our API, to our fraud data mining and analysis.

- Some of the tools we use and love: SQLAlchemy, Mako, Werkzeug, Fabric, Gunicorn.

- We use PostgreSQL - it is awesome.

- We love to leverage existing proven technologies like rsyslog, postfix, etc.

- We use different languages when we need to, but, we understand the relationship between cognitive load and components and how they apply to technical debt, so we adhere to "pragmatism beats purity."

- We love standards and automation. Our code base is all pep8, we pylint on every commit and we deploy to production about 20 to 25 times a day -- AS A PAYMENTS COMPANY!

We don't go down. EVER.
