Appealing to the stereotyped 'learning styles' in instruction may not yield reliable results in terms of general academic performance, but swapping between them or targeting a specific mode of delivery for a particular bit of content can be especially helpful for maintaining pupils' attention and interest, which does have an impact on test scores. In my former life as an instructor I've found this to be true in both teenage and college-age class groups.

In a more narrow use case, I have found visual presentation methods are also especially helpful for teaching past cultural and linguistic barriers.
