What Happened to Amazon Prime 2-Day Shipping? (vox.com)

Amazon is slipping. They can't get me anything in Central NY in two days.

Other retailers like Best Buy and Wal-Mart frequently get me packages in one or two days. I even ordered a box of minidiscs on Ebay from Japan and got them in less than a week.

Everybody else is getting faster but AMZN is getting slower.

I just canceled the renewal of my Prime subscription, you should too.

Have mine set to not renew anymore. Their products have been falling apart too.

More delays and returns than ever, slow shipping, and if you ever need support, it has turned into a black hole where you can’t get anyone to help. Had a gift card they confirmed wasn’t activated and bought through them directly and has been a struggle to get any refund or answer.

I've noticed this too. It definately is by product.

Since I buy lots of weird stuff, my delivery times are all over the place. Some items can be obtained same day (if I buy enough $$), or overnight. Some "Prime" sales can take a week to ship.

I also see different geo areas get targetted for certain days. Like my home address tends to get things Wednesday and weekends. My office building gets things on Fridays, and Amazon knows enough that weekend delivery doesn't work.

So to me, it seems like they are aiming for an "average", keep certain things close, make people happy with real short delivery, but if you get weird stuff, you are probably going to be less happy overall with longer shipping delays.

I guess Amazon hasn't figured out the perfect balance of worker abuse and getting the maximum productivity like UPS has. /s

UPS is a union shop, something that terrifies AMZN.

amazons same day or next day shipping has been unreliable for me. i’d say 10% of the time the items are “out for delivery” but never get delivered. then they get delivered the following day.

i’d prefer to go back to the days of rock solid 2-day delivery.

if folks are dealing with 4-5 day delivery then there’s little reason to be choosing amazon at all.

Not that it matters to customers because that is not how they see it but 2 day delivery never meant 2 days from time of placing the order. It meant 2 days from the time item is shipped.

This used to cause frustration and confusion even among Amazon employees so I can only imagine what it would be like for regular customers.

I ordered a new KVM for my WFH setup this morning and it arrived at the same day. Maybe it is in certain locations.

It's the same in Europe. With prime you used to get most items the day after order, rarely two days after ordering. Now it's at least 2 days for most items, many even only arrive 3-4 days after ordering. And that's even if you're close to a major distribution center.

l Iive in Dallas, I get most thing the day after I order them, some I get the same day anda few two days later. Amazon has never been late for me

Likewise in MO and OK

Amazon learned people don’t really care … for now.

Ah, Vox. The worst news agency I've ever seen. No originality, 5 years late on most stories, and hyper political and useless, while pretending to not be.

Anyway, I have overnight and 1 day shipping sometimes, along with 2 day shipping.

Others match Amazon sometimes since Amazon delivers their stuff too. I've seen Amazon deliver stuff from Costco, Walmart, Home Depot, etc. They also have the most accurate times and always take a delivery photo.

However, the opposite is also true. Some things take longer, but the estimate in checkout has been accurate 99% of the time.

So, nothing happened 2 day shipping, if you live in thr right place, which is what the case has been for 10 years.

Before the pandemic 2 day shipping was really 2 days most of the time for me. I saw the regression happen around the time that Amazon announced that people in a few anointed zip codes would be getting faster shipping. (Say, Washington, DC so your legislator gets fast shipping and thinks his constituents are getting fast shipping too.)
