Hmm, interesting; I feel the same about the US.


I think there's a lot of people in the US who think this China lockdown policy might be a good idea.


Whataboutism or whataboutery (as in "what about…?") denotes in a pejorative sense a procedure in which a critical question or argument is not answered or discussed, but retorted with a critical counter-question which expresses a counter-accusation. From a logical and argumentative point of view it is considered a variant of the Tu-quoque pattern (Latin 'you too', term for a counter-accusation), which is a subtype of the Ad-hominem argument.

Oh I see. My intention wasn't to compare the two nations, but that I was surprised that people across the globe feel the same way about their government and politics and COVIDs influence on it.


Instead of leaving why don't they stay and fight?

In case you’re serious, it’s because the costs outweigh the benefits. Specifically, the benefits would accrue to everyone, while the costs are borne by the individuals doing the “fighting.” This is known as the free rider problem. Realistically, there’s not much an individual can do to change an entire society. Moving to better circumstances, however, is a realistic alternative.


You're right in the short term. But if people don't leave, at some point, a critical mass of people will emerge that will be able to change society.
