With FUSE [0], you could symlink your notification sound file to a "file" that will return bytes from a different notification sound on every read!

Default alert sounds are boring. One custom alert sounds isn't enough.


Not all alerts are equal either. The 'alert sound' is the moral equivalent of the idiot light (aka check engine) on cars.


Error: Homer Simpson "D'oh!" Maybe a problem/could become serious: Metal Gear Solid '!' sound. Real Bad: Star Trek Red Alert Klaxon.


Love the idea of using Homer Simpson's "D'oh!" Also, holy crap, multiple degrees of warning would be next level.
