The real takeaway, for me at least, is the degree to which all culture is mass-produced by a small cabal. Books coming out simultaneously around the world due to work of nameless translators with timed bathroom breaks? Movie tie-in coming pre-packaged? Scouts looking for specific trendy protagonists? It's all junk really, the book equivalent of fast food. And apparently even the stuff that's packaged as high culture and wins prestigious awards is not immune.
