I hate to be "that guy" here, ESPECIALLY on hacker news, but someone has to say it, and I'm probably not the only one with my head in the gutter, but the little cross-hairs on the rockets in your screenshots turn your rockets into penises.
And then the Rocket flying out of the big O like that....
Something just feels suggestive here, and almost uncomfortable. I'll give the game a try now and hopefully provide some real constructive criticisms,
EDIT: Sorry, I can't try the game, it requires an OS version I don't have yet. Keep in mind, LOTS of people never plug their devices into their computers ever, and are still running old versions of the OS.
I know according to the rules you aren't supposed to ask other people to flag stories, but this is a case where I think it's worth violating that rule.
I don't doubt that the author is a lurker, and really meant the "thanks HN". but if this gets upvoted enough, there will be empirical evidence that just posting links to iPhone games will be financially rewarded. It's an invitation to spam HN with cheap phone games.
Which is not to say you can't find a way to push your products on HN. Sales reports and post-mortems are basically just advertisements, but at least they offer something of value to the community in exchange for the impressions. Even just a solicitation for critique would be worth more, because at least then you have a conversation starter.
I'm surprised to say that I agree (because I'm usually not a fan of flagging). You need X amount of karma to even downvote people on HN. There should be some participation bar to post a game ad.
With that said, if the author wants to submit a blog entry detailing some design/coding problems solved or description of his process in building the game or even a link to his sources, I'd happily upvote that story. But just a link to the iTunes listing of a game from a relatively new account is something that can be abused.
Argghh! I knew I should have spent more time spellchecking. I guess that isn't my strong suit. After seeing it so many times I kinda blank it.. thanks for the heads up.
This is my first app where I did it completely on my own (previous ones I just helped out). Hard to say exactly how long, since I ended up spending time on it here and there over quite a few months (like all my projects lol), but I would say probably 4 weeks hard concentrating work in total, at a guess.
