I have always thought the places most likely to survive global societal collapse are those in which people live as their forbears did five hundred years ago.

NZ, for instance: sure, it exports food, but it imports almost everything else. Cars. Medicines. Road-making machinery. Clothes. Tractors. Everything manufactured, pretty much. Without artificial fertilizers, even NZ is heavily overpopulated.
