I feel slightly guilty for submitting this. It’s the first time I hear about the term doxing. I certainly didn’t want to expose anyone but found the story itself extremely interesting. I think it would have been just as interesting if it were posted with <name redacted>. Apologies if this is considered bad taste to post.

This is just doxxing, again, someone who has made enormous effort in avoiding being doxxed and just wants to be left alone.

The most prolific offshoot of some of _why's work that I see is the vast increase of comics and "sketchnotes" about technical topics and from conference talks. Having such visual resources I think has been really great for beginners and for outreach in general.

Meanwhile we criticize websites that don't honor the "Do Not Track" flag and question motives of companies that are against the GDPR.

"Jonathan is _why, he is fine, and he just wants to be left alone."

This is an interesting piece and a great read all the way through. _why was an enigmatic character in the Ruby community and his apparent 'infocide' bears writing about, especially wrapped in a narrative about learning to program and his apparent legacy in the wider Ruby community.

Sure he want's to be left alone, but that's not reason for flagging this article or calling it a 'disgrace'. It's not really about uncovering him at all, and the reporter doesn't even make contact.

That piece is a disgrace.

He disappeared because he wanted to be left alone.

She tracked him, doxxing anything she could dig along the way, about him and his family.

Please flag this.
