Need? Perhaps not. But outcomes improve, as explained by the article:

“Emotional support, defined as providing comfort and understanding, is essential for well-being, particularly in older adults, where it predicts better cognitive health, emotional stability, and life expectancy”

Sometimes there are good reasons for things beyond necessity.

Gulf of America doesn’t bother me, but I’m going to have to keep calling the mountain Denali. Better name by far imo

If a handful of fulfillment centers went on strike in solidarity they could probably save the jobs of their quebecois peers

The truth is they are losing money outside the US and that is the real reason.

Move on? Usually no answer means no interest, or at least not enough to allocate the effort.

Which is half accurate

It’s not bad journalism, it’s modern journalism! It reports data and invites readers like you to confirm your preconceived biases with it, such that it never challenges those beliefs and risks losing you as a reader, nor risks confirming your beliefs and losing other readers. It’s win win all around!

Grass is always greener on the other side. Lots of Americans wish our country could take a few cues from EU regulatory frameworks and social safety provisions.

The EU looks like a trust fund kid who always has had their their cake and eaten it too, but now looks to be on course for a reckoning with reality.

Perhaps to the naive Europe still has a nice allure, but when you lift of the carpet it's hard to find confidence in it's future.

The problem is those social safety provisions require prosperity. If the EU keeps falling behind in growth, it has no hope of keeping current Quality of Life.

And yet, what good is growth if we have to sacrifice social safety provisions?

Because you end up with neither.

I am not an engineer by training, but rather a linguist. I just got sucked into the software development biz for a while. But as a linguist, I can tell you that the only thing you need to know about words is they change. They generalize or specialize, they become offensive or even complimentary. It’s best to just accept that the popular definition of the word no longer matches how you desire it to be used.

Want

Ugh this is always how it goes. “New tech is gonna liberate us from labor! Oh wait, actually, managing the complexities introduced by new tech is going to require more labor than we originally needed.”
