You have plenty of great recs at this point so there's no point to regurgitate what has already been said. (Definitely check out the late McCoy Tyner rec.)

For those who haven't listened to Musicmagic before, that whole album is criminally underrated. Seriously, the name says it all. Been bumpin' to it all day!

I saw McCoy Tyner in the early 90's at Blues Alley, and sat maybe 4 feet from the piano.

Absolutely amazing experience, seeing his hands fly over the keys.

More than just slightly jealous here.

He left a huge mark on me--I literally have an excerpt from 500 miles high tattooed on my forearm. Chick's work with Return to Forever made me __love__ jazz which led to so many more discoveries. You bet you'll be missed, Chick! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful compositions with the world.

this is my perl golf version of the same series. You can probably can do something similar with js:

Doesn't work for me [0]. Perhaps HN messed it up somehow?

To post code, indent it with two spaces, or HN will turn asterisks into italics on/off.

For what it's worth, Toronto salaries have a pretty different statistic on hired.com: https://hired.com/state-of-salaries-2018

Speaking from personal experience, I've seen salaries ranging from 100-120k CAD with 4 years of experience. Rent price increases as of late seem to be affecting much of the costs as well. YMMV. Tax is comparable to California as well. It's not as lucrative as USA, but public schooling is very strong in Toronto.

Shouting politely is always an option, but I feel restaurants should really adopt having a button at each table that customers can use if they have any requests to make to their waiter or waitress.

E la carte has you covered then: http://elacarte.com/

It's a Y-combinator funded company by the way. I really hope it catches on big really quickly, I think it's just wonderful.

Their favicon looks vaguely like a raised middle finger.

These are really common in Korea and totally awesome.

I started with an acoustic guitar about ten years ago, but that's only because my father had one laying around. Approach learning the guitar like how most people learn new programming languages: just dive right into it. If you like acoustic guitar music more than electric guitar, then learn it and vice versa.

For acoustic: Seagull, Simon Patrick, and Art and Luthrie solid top guitars make solid learner guitars. They can be had for $300-500.

For electric guitars: visit the SevenString forums. That community is more knowledgeable about it than me.

Adobe Reader also gives this functionality, however, this feature removes the context switching.

Hacking Dropbox's SpaceRace to win is pretty glorious.

I find it kind-of interesting how common features on IM services can be rebranded into a startup.

it's also funny that I can't think of any IM services that are making money.. or rather I have no idea how they make money.

however it seems like with geo fencing and a willingness to share your address book with a new service it can do all the work for you, so it might be useful, but profitable? without selling contact info i don't get. ads in the status screen?
