I agree with a lot of the other options, but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention one that isn't always obvious.
With all the Big Corp asterisks, Microsoft Business Basic can be a pretty great deal at 6 USD/month. Solid reliability, aliases, (too many) config options, 1TB of OneDrive storage, cloud MS apps, etc.
Apple hosts custom domains at no extra charge if you have iCloud+. I've used it for a couple years now to host my family's domain and a couple of hobby ones for myself.
I would probably still be on Apple mail and use its generated email aliases except it went through a stage of not dealing with various back bounce spam so I switched to fastmail and have had no issues.
If you need something cheap and are willing to deal with a tiny company, have a look at <https://purelymail.com>. I've been happy with them for two years, never had any problems with delivery, and they support infinite domains/aliases, and custom Sieve rules. But do not use it if you need 99.999999% SLAs or anything like that, because again -- it's a one-man show.
I've used Fast Mail, liked it a lot, but I think at the time the pricing wasn't the best.
I then used some other platform that was quite "old school" that is recommended here. The Mail Admin was very opinionated which lead to some mail being blocked. That wasn't cool.
I'm now with Migadu on the cheapest plan and it's been fine. Had a few outages here and there, but otherwise solid.
Actually the new Thunderbird people are not taking lots of patches and fixes for even things like security and mail corruption issues. And privacy definitely doesn't seem to be anything they are interested in. I gave up and just send them over to Betterbird, which is what I use now anyway, since I don't want my mail corrupted.
I agree. I've been really impressed with Anthropic. The issue for me comes when I want to take arbitrary user input and ask Claude questions about the user provided input. Claude is very, very, very ethical. Which is great, but it won't provide a response if the user tends to use a lot of curse words.
Do some masking of curse words with sht, ?!, verybad, or similar? Something that Claude will accept. It might work, if users are just generally badmouthed, not actively trying to trigger the model/system.
Everywhere has their bad parts. I arrived in La Paz in rough shape, as I hadn't slept on the red eye on the way in. I could have easily been taken advantage of. Instead the taxi driver took me right where I was going, helped me unload and communicate with the front desk of the building where my airbnb was.
The people are really friendly, generous, and happy.
There are a lot of problems with making this argument, though. Ultimately our government lacks the necessary powers. Remember, those people travelled to Ottawa with the stated mission of overthrowing the Government. They also used their horns in a densely populated area, which an ENT doctor confirmed exposed the citizens of Downtown Ottawa to volumes that can damage the inner ear. This is without taking into consideration those with disabilities, like Autism, which can make such sensations exceptionally difficult.
Then things get super messy when you start to look at how the province deals with indigenous populations, their protests, versus a group of white nationalists attempting to overthrow the Government.
The fact the emergency powers were used, to me, are a symptom of a broken system.
Either way, opposing political powers are jumping all over the opportunity to leverage the situation for their own gain.
I'm so sick of politics. They are all dishonest. No matter what, we lose.
The horns died down after a few short days, after a reasonable concession was made.
I have a feeling hardly any Canadians at all know what really happened in Ottawa even though there was and is extensive live video evidence streamed and stored on YouTube.
If I lived downtown Ottawa and likely worked for the federal government I would be extra sympathetic to any protest at all. I would have to appreciate a democracy in order to work for such agencies, which apparently your buddies don’t.
They also used their horns in a densely populated area, which an ENT doctor confirmed exposed the citizens of Downtown Ottawa to volumes that can damage the inner ear.
Are there any actual examples of people making claims about going deaf due to the protests?
Doctors == generally low information value unless they have training in science or mathematics.
I personally measured over 90dB in a friend’s apartment downtown. NIOSH recommends exposure to levels above 90dB for less than 30 minutes per (work) day. She said it was that loud 24/7, and I believe that.
If you have some evidence that it’s safe to listen to sound levels above 90dB for extended periods of time, I’d recommend you publish it.
Again, I'm not going to go searching the internet. Engaging in these comments is already more work than is worth it. I'm never going to convince convoy supporters they are wrong.
A woman took legal action against the protestors. In her action she called on an ENT. The ENT make the statements I outlined above under oath.
Search for it if you actually care. Again, I'm not wasting my time because nothing is ever good enough for the people who align ideologically with the convoy. The dismissiveness, what aboutisms, and misdirection that follow are never worth the effort.
Again, I'm not going to go searching the internet.
Yet you imply that others should do exactly that in order to take seriously your insinuation that actual bodily harm was incurred. If you have proof that someone was physically damaged by the blowing of the truck horns then it will a simple thing for you supply this information of which you have implied you are the possessor.
If you do not have it and have never had it then you could also help by just stating that, so that no one wastes their time.
Clearly making fun of my own situation struck a cord with folks. I'm sorry, that wasn't my intent.
I'm making light of my own situation. That's where I am in my own healing journey. This commnet is about me, my experiences, and my father. It is not a suggestion of what your father may have been like. If your father is great, great!
Many people diagnosed with severe mental illness, like my brother, have excellent upbringings including a great father. What are you trying to achieve bybsaying this? You sound ignorant and antagonistic to vulnerable people.
My comment relates to my own experiences. I use humor as a coping mechanism. I'm sorry your brother is struggling, I'm happy to hear he has a great support system, and I hope he finds a treatment plan that works for him.
Also, as much as this comment might strike a cord with people, there is a great deal of truth to it. Just as there is a great deal of truth to your brother's experience. Attachment trauma is real. Trauma related to a primary attachment figure is a real source of pain for people.
Depression is fundamentally different than being sad about things. Trauma can trigger it, but not by merely being sad.
That's the whole point of antidepressant medication. It alleviates symptoms in someone who is sick, but otherwise has no effect on someone who is healthy.
I'll rephrase - CBT has the same impact on the brain as antidepressants when they work, after only 3 months.
And of course you have to follow through. No treatment work without follow through.
I'm glad you found an SSRI that works for you. It's great when that happens. That said, being on the wrong SSRI can cost a life. Being that they are effective as often as they are ineffective, they need to be perscribed with care. Care that is not taken.
Long term treatment plans should centre around psychotherapy. SSRIs can offer some assistance, but again, the risks are too high and people end up on them for far too long. If you want to change your brain, it takes focused intentional work. Therapy is great for that.
I'm sorry that happened to you. I can't speak for all bipolar alcoholics, but I sought treatment and now I've made amends with my son and we have a good relationship if that helps at all.
Both. Sure we make huge progress in depression research and brain research in general, but there are so many environmental things happening, like yours for example, so just saying "oh yeah depression comes from that DNA" or "yeah that's just from your trauma. A lil therapy will heal everything" is just a bit short sigthed. So yeah, just saying that it's all very complex and we shouldn't really try to reduce this beast of a disease down to anything, because everyone has a different story. In the end I was just a little sarcastic, sorry
I'm curious how you track that? I don't have HA connected to plex yet, but I will. I suppose there might be an event when the 'track' changes?
