If this had come out a year or two ago I may have considered trying it.

Still too disgusted at the way the company has been run recently to even consider using their products.

-----

Why would anyone bother committing to one of their products again if they just arbitrarily shut things down when they are working on the next big thing?!

-----

Agreed. If I were a user, I'd feel pretty burned getting attached to an application then have the company "shut down" to work on something better.

Maybe oink just wasn't driving the engagement they wanted (or something).

yep never investing time into another Kevin Rose product. I loved pownce and i liked oink. Hes let me down too many times.

Totally agree, compete on innovation - not by patent troling! Goodbye Yahoo!, shame you decided to disgrace yourself in such a way.

-----

The problem is innovation is measured as number of patents filed. Investors who want more innovation, judge how innovative a company is by number of patents. More patents -> more innovative. And so that's what managers optimize for.

The program is that is a ridiculously crude measure. Like measuring programmer output by lines of code, this idea that measuring innovation at such a micro level even makes sense, needs to die.

They saw Apple going away with that over and over again and thought "What the hell, let's do it".

Thanks for sharing your story, it's good to remember the truly valuable things in life.

-----

Wow, this is awesome... thanks for sharing!

-----

Looks cool, is it just for a single user or does it sync with everyone in your organisation?

-----

Really love this idea, so simple! Might try some experiments myself.

-----

I totally agree, I have done something similar to this. Instead of waiting to find someone I just got started on my own.

Tough at first not having someone to bounce ideas off but after the first hire it's fine :-)

Looks to me like they have made this acquisition to give them a talent pool and OS for the new featurephone strategy once they have offloaded the Smartphone biz to Microsoft?

A lot of my non techie friends love using Foursquare!

There is such huge potential for serious monetisation with local deals, time is running out to really capitalise on that though.
