Another tip for public wifi is to use OpenVPN over tcp/443 as an exit node to route any traffic you like. Obviously you should always be using a VPN on an untrusted network but this way you can bypass all content/media type restrictions.

Thanks, its free up to 3 users. Previously I had used ExpressVPN which costs 30 bugs a month..

Also an old express user with “find close to free vpn” on my todo list today!! Thank you kind stranger

I believe the main concern here, from dealing with clients that have mandated no PII in logs, is both authorisation as well as control. If it’s in your service logs, then it could be in your Splunk logs, it could be in a storage repository and it could be in your requests that you send to the service provider to troubleshoot some issue.

Unless there is a valid use case for logging PII (and I can’t think of any which can’t be engineered around) then I think it’s best to avoid it in principle.

I think of it as the same as logging passwords, keys or tokens.

This post has triggered my PTSD. I had Dell tell me that their only monitors which were compatible with Macs were AUD$1000k+ each, and Apple tell me that the only monitors compatible with them were available from the Apple Store (also AUD$1000k+ each). Determined to not fall into this trap of paying $1000k for a 24-inch monitor, I tried a range of hardware to get things to work.

Setups that did not work for me:

- 2019 MacBook Pro (Intel), Kensington SD4600P Dock, Dell U2412M, Dell U2415

- 2021 MacBook Pro (M1 Max), Dell WD19TB Dock, 2x Dell S2721QS

- 2021 MacBook Pro (M1 Max), OWC Thunderbolt Dual DisplayPort Adapter, 2x Dell S2721QS

- 2021 MacBook Pro (M1 Max), Lenovo ThinkPad Universal Thunderbolt 4 Dock, 2x Dell S2721QS

Setups that worked for me:

- 2019 MacBook Pro (Intel), Dell WD19TB Dock, Dell U2412M, Dell U2415

- 2019 MacBook Pro (Intel), Dell WD19TB Dock, 2x Dell S2721QS

- 2021 MacBook Pro (M1 Max), OWC Thunderbolt 4 Hub, 2x Dell S2721QS

I do still get the occasional strange issue with the M1 and OWC Thunderbolt 4 Hub, such as sometimes one display will not wake, or sit at 30hz until I reconnect it, but for the most part it is an enjoyable configuration.

I suspect that there is a compatibility issue with the M1 and the Dell S2721Q/QS monitors when connected via DisplayPort which contributed to my woes.

I use Jira, though rarely interact with it via the web interface or board.

I assign due dates to most tasks (only the least important tasks don’t get a date - and I never get to those) and then I use some custom components written for xbar on Mac and Scriptable on iOS to make sure that every screen I look at shows me the items that are due today.

I can create a new task and assign a due date by talking to my phone using Siri or shortcut on Mac and iOS. I’ve also got a shortcut that clears my list for the day and pushes everything out until tomorrow, which I might use of a weekend.

I’ve been doing this for 5 months and have 175 items in Done, which is huge for me as I’m a procrastinator.

My MacOS productivity tools include: alfred (as someone already said), rectangle, bartender (essential for me since getting a notched MacBook), xbar (if you want easy access to custom info/bash scripts in the menu bar), itsycal, menumeters, cheatsheet (to help you learn all of the hotkeys), obsidian (which I have set to auto sync to iCloud across devices).

Each of these can be installed via 'brew install'.

Rectangle is a free and similar app.
