I’d argue pre ai we have a mountain of shoddy unfinished ports. And getting communities to converge a few projects was not a thing that happened that often. There are a few exceptions (like blender) but in most cases there are dozens of unique solutions and hundreds of forks for most things.
They talk about each manufacturer is different and the cars they make are all different. You can’t test a Lexus 350 and assume it’s the same as a 350h or 350h+. They tested a handful of cars and it cost a million usd.
Their point is that relying on consumer privacy groups to foot the bill for data collection is hard and we (at citizens) are owed transparency from auto manufacturers
AFAIK AMD doesn’t do this because it’s a pain in the butt to do from a hardware and firmware perspective. They basically have their equivalent of the intel ME do RAM for training and then the main cpu comes on with DRAM already up. At least it was like that five years ago when I last worked on an AMD part.
Fun fact, I’ve now worked on the surface duo (technically the windows version not the android version) and the iPhone duo.
I thought the ideas of the surface duo were great and I’m super excited to see them evolved and shipped in a product that I think a lot of people are going to love.
