*IVO – Quantum Drive Propellantless Thruster - *The objective of the IVO Quantum Drive is to test the system in the LEO environment and qualify the drive’s ability to provide thrust utilizing proprietary quantum technology with no required propellant. Estimated Thrust: 1.75mN.

Why does this give me EM-Drive vibes? Haven't we established that some kind of propellant is required for conservation of momentum?

Similar thing... it shouldn't work, according to the established laws of physics, though it does seem to work on the ground. If it actually does work in space, then our rules of physics need tweaking.

1.75mN can certainly be measured on earth. I would of course be happy to hear about a new physics breakthrough, but putting all the VC buzzwords together "proprietary quantum whatever" does not instill confidence.

I built a little lan tool https://router.fyi that tries to get LAN data for a sort of online-nmap. depending on your browser, it's sometimes capable of finding wifi printers and a couple other smart home devices i've manually added.

feature request: wifi and ntp server

what's the fix for this sort of exploit? Narrowing the accepted packets to airtag specific packet types?

i've used a similar test but found it has false positives with zinc -- and so many things have zinc

A lot of Zinc plating (almost all galvanizing) has lead in it. It’s a common component of lead/zinc alloys (many Zamac alloys).

Lead in general is also a common component of ‘impure’ zinc (from the mine/foundry).

So chances are, your tests are correct.

Zamac alloys do not contain lead, except as a tiny amount of impurity (because we don't know how to completely remove it). Zamac is often confused for the more general "pot metal", which is a anything goes if it melts in a pot (that is on your kitchen stove!), lead often is in these, but the goal of people who use pot metal is cheap and don't worry about quality, such alloys make be as much as 50% lead because nobody cares (there is an upper limit, but defined more by it will no longer make it past the warranty).

Please keep your terms correct. Zamac is a very useful thing to look for in hobby metal casting because you can buy ingots for fairly cheap that will melt in your kitchen (I would still do it outside) and have useful known properties thus ensuring good results. Pot metal is a low quality product that you could also work with in your kitchen, but you have no idea what the results will be.

charging near peak times impacts the price, especially in that area

That seems problematic. If I am on a road-trip and need to charge up, am I meant to just park up for several hours until it is off-peak?

EVs already ask more from drivers, namely around planning, and stopping times. But this is a whole other level of inconvenience.

Gas stations don't do have peak/off-peak rates, even if they could.

> If I am on a road-trip and need to charge up, am I meant to just park up for several hours until it is off-peak?

No, you pay the extra $15 or whatever. If you're counting pennies, maybe charge as little as needed, so you can do more of the charge later during an off-peak time.

Interesting o3-mini produces a correct response: https://chatgpt.com/share/679efd3f-8e88-800d-9aa8-e3fadccf7c...

added context, deepseek is having ddos issues https://status.deepseek.com/

If you can't beat em on merit, pay criminals to take em offline.

Good business.

I think singleshot_ is saying the slurs do not make sense but drewbug01's explanation of the article's meaning is clear

Hi @lgats I would really like to speak to you about fccid.io. Could you DM me?

[flagged]

I think you're reaching for outrage. I don't see anywhere in this comment's ancestry where anyone said anything resembling that.

That’s literally what the new Facebook policy is that she’s referring to in the article… it was previously banned, zuck has decided that it’s now perfectly acceptable, if not encouraged behavior.

I understand your objection to the policy, I just don't understand where in this thread you latched onto anything objectionable. At most the OP said the slurs don't make sense (really they didn't even say that, they just clarified the subject of what they were saying made sense).

Are you saying the slurs DO make sense? Or is it possible you added some words to what the OP actually said and then objected to that?

[flagged]

I believe the intent was thus: “Aye, that makes sense (not the [reauthorization of] slurs, but the explanation). Thanks.”

This is why people are strongly disagreeing with you. Apologies in advance for copy and pasting a meme, but I think it applies directly to the way you’re attempting to shape this discussion:

> Twitter is the only place where well articulated sentences get misinterpreted.

> You can say “I like pancakes” and somebody will say “So you hate waffles?”

> No bitch, that’s a whole new sentence wtf is you talkin bout

Or, you know, maybe your interpretation of what they said is incorrect?

It's quite obvious to me that the original poster was confused about what the end of the article meant and trying to communicate that the explanation they got made sense.

It's also quite obvious to me that they don't think the updated policy about using slurs being okay makes sense.

> Then proceeded to get downvoted to oblivion because there’s apparently a large subset of folks who think calling homosexuality a mental disorder is a perfectly normal thing to do.

If you are receving massive downvotes, instead of insisting on your interpretation being the only correct one, maybe you can try to critically analyze your interpretation and see if there is another way to interpret what was said, instead of doubling down and believing that HN is the last bastion of LGBTQ hate.
