I was lucky enough to have a pair of non-self centring graphics paddles attached to my BBC. Docking with these was easy as you'd just line up, get the rotation right and then leave the stick where it was. I was 12.

There are, in my opinion, two types of people. Those who have never seen Threads, and those who have seen Threads at least one time too many. You probably should have stayed in the former category :)
Sadly Vans have stopped doing the style I liked wearing and had been being for years (often buying several pairs at once). I'm hoping that the Etnies I now wear wont go the same way.
The other issue I've had is when finding something I like and that fits, I often can't bulk buy because there's only one or two items actually in stock. Thankfully these days I can often buy the one item in the shop and get the remaining ones online.
There's not a huge amount to the driver to slow anything down on the client side. Result processing is a little hairy given the structure that is returned, but even that aims to be as lightweight as possible.
