Drone pilots don't get any info about their target, certainly not enough to make a judgement call. If they object (or burn out) someone else is put in the chair.
People are conscripted, they put on the uniform and become legitimate targets? It might as well be a robot doing the shooting. Same difference.
The pilot becomes responsible for those outcomes. For example indiscriminately killing civilians for example is a war crime. Its easier to get an AI to commit war crimes than humans.
Perhaps but if the difference is significant I don't know. Everything changes then we try stretch rhetoric from stabbing someone with a sword to hypersonic missiles? We might hold the pilot responsible if they erase a building but I'm far less comfortable blaming them. We know the targets are actually picked by computers using metadata. The difference gets increasingly vague.
I like the substitution concept. What humans can do depends on the abstractions and the tools. One could picture just the shape of the jet and have a few ideas how to improve it further. If that is enough info for the tool it could be worthy of the label "designed by Jim".
Antarctica is a great place for datacenters. They can power them with any of the 300 national security reactors and easily keep them secret from the taxpayers forever.
The solution is to hoard ideas, organize them, review them and experiment. I for example suspect that giving students more time for everything would improve results. I have nothing to show for this but it would be good science to run the experiment. Unless of course there are better sounding ideas that should be tried first.
A wise man once told me that a company or organization has enough professors or high level academics they must also run the show. They won't like it but they have to. You shouldn't have a layer above and pretend they know better. They will inflate the importance of stuff they can understand and ignore everything important.
Everyone should really stop posting online unless their job requires it.
The platforms offer only castrated interactions designed not to accomplish anything. People online are useless obnoxious shadows of their helpful and loving self.
No one cares more what you say than those monitoring you and building that detailed profile with sinister motives. The ratio must be something like 1000:1 or worse.
