You could have no auto-update functionality, and that would go a long way. But then, you are severely crippling your product by doing that. Releasing clientside sourcecode doesnt mean much if the NSA forces you to give everyone else a different binary and sourcode than your target. It means nothing.
Look- the point is, you will go down a endless rabbithole of trying to appease everyone with "bulletproof" security. And the more you go, the more functionality and usefulness you will give up.
The best solution is to be realistic and not make defacto claims. Even things like TOR, which have been open source and audited from day one have had serious issues, and I am sure many TOR developers parroted the "you cant be tracked using us" only to have exploits and code issues pop up multiple times.
The article talks a bit about why QUIC over straight UDP. My one-liner on why I prefer QUIC is that it is designed for the public Internet where packet loss is more likely.
Right now, the exchanges have only just allowed Bitcoin Cash deposits. I'm not aware of any merchant that accepts Bitcoin Cash. I believe that because of the massive price difference (purchasing power) between Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash, merchants would have to accept them just like merchants accept different currencies in Hong Kong (RMB, HKD, USD).
Sure. But my point is that there's no need for merchants to support BCH. Or to keep supporting BTC. As long as it's easy to exchange one for the other. As it is with ShapeShift.

Since 100% of the blocks mined during this period has been SegWit, I would say it's very likely that it gets activated!
It’s not a matter of probability. Miners decide what to do, and right now a majority of them will ignore non-SegWit blocks. Doesn’t mean they can’t change their minds, though.
