what if it's dumber: They're not making money, actual improvements are sigmoid, and since the real TAM is never going to be repaid _and_ they have a dangerous enough product on their hands they're under two different pials of liablity.
Actual Luddite: your employees who are going through layoffs while your profits are rising.
Luddite according to the boss: somebody who is trying to prevent me from doing what I want to do when I want to do it just because there's 100 of them and one of me.
I was in Amish country last week, watching in bemusement as elderly women zoomed down the street in e-bikes. I thought to myself that it was understandable given that they lived on uneven terrain. But then, I wondered, why did they choose such a place to live if they were not willing to use technology, and why did e-bikes get a pass while cars didn't?
Yeah, basically any human group has some shared social context. Most cults and fascists probably eat together sometimes too, but that doesn't make it a red flag.
oh! "This will benefit the 2%, while the 1% burns the earth to the ground"
This is like Republicans claiming that they're doing everything for small businesses, when the reality is they're doing things for contract workers who more often are just being forced into contracts that wouldn't exist without the lax regulatory reality and are abused thereof.
"This will benefit the little guy (assuming they survive their cancer diagnosis)"
I just heard this last night: buried in the "support for small business" was the repeal (or effectively neuteringO of the Corporate Transparency Act's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.
That program had a simple ask of every corporation doing business in America: who really owns it? No more hiding of ill gotten gains and laundering through US real estate, etc (hint: anybody come to mind who might do a lot of that)?.
It was a stupid regulation to begin with. Any investigative agency already could trivially get this data through already existing means.
All it did was make your 3 member condo association have to pay a lawyer $500/yr in compliance fees for utterly no benefit to anyone other than the compliance folks collecting their rent. Or take on personal criminal liability to file it yourself. Better not forget one random year or it’s a felony!
Just like most of the rest of the AML/KYC creep after 9/11 it did absolutely nothing to go after anybody they say it did - it just made things harder on normal everyday people.
Including people who are violently un-inclusive is just being violently un-inclusive with an extra step.
Like, there are a lot of world views and opinions that can be included without damaging the space, but nazism is very clearly not one of them. Fascism and the authoritarian forms of communism also fall under this heading.
Like take politics out of it for a sec. You own a bar. There’s one customer who comes in every night and drinks five shots and then sucker-punches a random other person in the bar.
Sure, you’re not violently assaulting one of your customers every night - but functionally, you have created a space where someone gets hurt every night. The first time it happens it’s not your fault, but the 20th time? Come on.
