The problem with waveguides are the manufacturing defects are on the micron level, and you need to get those channels perfect - then produce the same pattern a few more times for other colors, and hope they all perfectly line up.

I don’t see 3D printing being a solution here for a very very long time

No. That was some misinformation. The chips are being fully packaged in the U.S.

I think "for assembly" here means iPhone assembly, ie. the final SoC will be sent to China to assemble the iPhone. I don't think GP is referring to packaging.

Yes, and if China invades Taiwan, those noncompetes are going out the window and/ or the plant is getting nationalized

TSMC really screwed thesmelves with that deal honestly.

I would say as a company having an extra foundry in a less earthquake prone part of the world is a good idea to keep the company alive in the case of a major disaster.

well TSMC actually winning on this one because TSMC have another fabs if china invade taiwan

and for taiwan, US has pledged to its security in case of invasion would defend no matter what

> US has pledged to its security in case of invasion would defend no matter what

Maybe with TSMC building chips in the US, that'll be one less reason for the US to defend Taiwan.

This. And it's certainly an argument that has not escaped China (nor Taiwan). If there is a "loser", that's Taiwan.

nope, US would not give an inch of taiwan in case of invasion

we talking about geo politic here. if china attack taiwan so would be north korea (this is their best chance)

for south korea and japan this is their existensial crisis, having china and north korea close to their home even for a kilometer is basically death sentence

You cant forget also US literally spends billions of dollar to keep balance of power in Europe,Middle-East and Africa

do you think US would ignore Asia where 30+-% world trade and resources happen??? you dnt need expert to figure it out

> US has pledged to its security in case of invasion would defend no matter what

by borrowing 155mm shells from South Korea? cute.

Invasion of Taiwan and deterrence of it hangs on non-land-war stuff.

If 36 hours (Ultra 2) isn't enough battery life, then you and your friends aren't the target audience for a smart watch with a display.

I guess we yearn for a world long past where there weren't so many daily charging cycles because things were just either plugged in or not.

Sure, but that's just the price you pay for having fancy portable gadgets. You want longer battery life, there are tradeoffs.

Personally, "it's finally a little thinner" is the thing that has me planning to buy an Apple Watch for the first time.

It's partially the general UX of charging a watch. I find it easy to put my iPhone on a stand next to my bed every night, but for some reason I find it annoying to take off my watch and put it on the same stand. Both devices generally need the same amount of effort to charge but ones more of a burden.

Maybe I just want to do it less because I'm wearing it not carrying it in a pocket or having it sit next to me somewhere.

Since I sleep with it I find it easier to just have a charger on my desk. Generally only needs about an hour a day to fully charge.

Headline should indicate this is in regards to people with or type 1 diabetes or at risk of developing it

I genuinely get the sense nobody there is capable of coming up with this on their own and are likely looking at this thread for ideas

Sorry but if any one of my coworkers behaved or responded like this, I’m not sure we’d be working together anymore.

Simultaneously, 1) I am frequently annoyed when dealing with these help-asking, "can we hop on a quick call?", "good morning [name]" interactions and vehemently agree with the author's frustration with them, and 2) their tone is so condescending and rude that I'd rather deal with 1000 of the former interactions than 1 interaction with this individual. I can't imagine linking this post to anyone.

This is insane you're getting downvoted. Someone needs to pay for the development of Chrome. That's just the reality.

How is Chrome going to make money as a standalone company? I have no idea, but it probably aligns with your guess

Watching videos/ interviews of the founder, it sounds like he’s very vey focussed on scaling this up to build affordable and durable wall sized versions of the display tech.

I’m certainly rooting for them. I hope they have more devices available soon

Was curious so I looked it up - Jose Antonio Vargas Elementary School is right by Moffet Field. The school also abuts an industrial park that fits the description.

One of the current tenants there is Volvo Innovation Lab, which I imagine does laser testing. I have no idea if buildings need certain certifications for working with lasers, so I mention that tidbit.

As well, that office park has 16 buildings in it, by my count.

The pieces of this story very much so line up.

Yeah like I said I'm sure it's mostly true. I just don't necessarily buy that he had a comedian's delivery on the day in question
