Hey, I own the existence of my thesis (and resulting degree) to Beeminder[0]. I also made use of someone who was my supporter. Someone not involved in any capacity with the project, but who I could send status reports to. This is related to the concept of a body double (search for "body doubling adhd"). Reply if you want to know more or want a chat.

Also, if you haven't seen it before, read this seminal procrastination post by Wait But Why[1].

Of course it's just a theory, but one that clicked for me and many others. It gives some helpful names to many of the things you experience when procrastinating. Afterwards you'll be able to recognize, "oh, I'm in the dark playground again" and possibly be able to do something about it.

Thanks for sharing, looks really nice. Way less verbose and more intuitive syntax than PlantUML. Also seems to drop some vestigial UML aspects, like those default icons in the top right of PlantUML boxes (although I don't really grok UML). Title is somewhat ambiguous, since PlantUML is open source as well.

I have a standing Google alert for UML threads, because I've been looking for a long while for a good resource on what makes a good diagram. Not how to make it or what to make it with; like a Tufte for diagrams... Anyway D2 seems to make it easy to make clean diagrams.

Well put...

That's one hell of a mind fuck! I wouldn't know what to do with that keyboard (at first) and I've been typing with Dvorak for ages. If you're touch typing, you never look at the keyboard, so I just don't recognize this layout (visually). Still, great news.

If I had a tablet device or regularly used one, I'd be able to get used to the seeing the layout. Maybe then there'd be a improvement when thumb-typing on a phone-sized device, but I agree with the other commenter that it probably wouldn't be worth the hassle. Something to check out in a couple of years, when I end up with a device that runs iOS 16.

Nice work! Do you automatically convert the links on yanking?

How has being free from employment been working out so far?

> Do you automatically convert the links on yanking?

No. I didn't even think of that. But it sounds like a great idea. I'll explore. Thank you.

> How has being free from employment been working out so far?

It has had its ups and downs, but I can say I am much happier in general. General restlessness/anxiety I used to have all the time has significantly come down. I got to experience sort of a stillness of thoughts, which has been a new experience for me.

I've been mulling over writing a 6-month update to document my thoughts/experience; will do soon.

I would also be very interested in a six-month update. Thanks for living and learning out loud!

What I'm forever looking for is a software-agnostic write-up of what makes a good and clear diagram/flowchart. Something like Tufte, but a little more specific. Most UML tutorials focus on the software (and those early pipe-dreams of generating code from diagrams). Anyone has any pointers?

git-annex has metadata driven views[0], which might be what you're looking for. When you're looking at a view, copying or moving a file to a folder "tagname", adds the tag "tagname" to that file. That seems easily scriptable to tag by media type/extension...

The obvious place for a dataset like this is Wikidata. There's already a lot of content in Wikipedia listicles (including Dutch/German Wikipedia's) that could be copied over.
