What exactly is your vision of the category selection?
Do you want a main category and these main categories have subcategories where you can choose from?
To find the right category easier, I've added a search function to it.
Yes, exactly. Instead of presenting several dozen categories, try to group them to as few as possible, and then, when the user chooses the main group, then open the drop-down with just those subgroups. Three levels max, of course, although, with clever thinking, you could probably get away with just two. For example, is this new post personal or technical? Is it about the O/S or an app? Hardware or software? And so on. On the other hand, a simple search/filter definitely helps.
