If you just want An investment vehicle, the easiest way is probably a gold ETF like GLDM

Kagi is starting down that path

The real issue to me isn’t whether something is labeled a chemical weapon—it’s the fact that police operate with less stringent rules than paramilitaries.

One day you’re just trying to figure out if there’s any fresh coffee in the break room down the hall, the next day you’ve invented the webcam.

Cool! Reminded me of this gem:

It reminds me of Motel of Mysteries by David Macaulay. In the 4000s an archeologist finds a perfectly preserved motel room. The book is his sketches and field notes on the contents of the room. Every conclusion drawn is wrong and somewhat humorous. A read through it will really change your views on archeology.

The benheck forums are the reason I work in tech. It was a great community. A lot of the people working on these projects today are former members. The most notable was Palmer Luckey who went on to found Oculus.

What’s your peanut butter recipe? I’d never really considered making my own.

Just salted peanuts plus a tablespoon of oil (peanut oil, rape seed oil, whatever). Dump these in a blender and blend 'till the right consistency is achieved. You'll probably have to help the blender a bit by stirring in the peanuts when the knives have created a hole in which they are spinning freely, repeat this until the mixture has gotten warm enough to start flowing by itself. Make sure not to touch the knives while doing this and use a wooden utensil to avoid damage to the knives. Plastic works as well but just in case you happen to touch the knives I'd advice using wood or you'll end up eating plastic.

A full jar of peanut butter takes about 1.5 to 1.8 jars of peanuts (and a tablespoon of oil) to produce.

It's also nice to get raw peanuts and roast them in the oven before blending.

That oven works fine for roasting raw coffee beans as well. Raw beans keep a very long time if stored correctly, pity though they tend to be sold as a luxury product and thus priced to match that description. A popcorn popper of the 'modified heat gun' type (aluminium cup with slits in the bottom through which hot air is blown) also works well for roasting coffee.

They may be thinking of MST

For context, MST or magnetic secure transmission, allows a phone to transmit an EM signal that emulates the physical action of swiping a magstripe based card. As in, it works with all the legacy "card swipe" terminals. Samsung phones up to like the S20(?) supported this, allowing them to technically work basically everywhere with no integration needed.

That's straight Voodoo shit. Getting that to work with most cheapo POS's sounds immensely challenging.

If you’re interested in ecology in science fiction you should give Kill Decision by Daniel Suarez a read. It’s not about ants specifically, but they play a large roll in a way (I don’t want to spoil too much and it’s been long enough since I read it I can’t remember what’s a spoiler or not). It’s a good read.

It used to have SMS support but they yanked it maybe a year or so ago. The big issue on the user end was, if someone deleted Signal and you used Signal for your SMS, it would keep sending them signal messages and not SMS. So you were left not realizing you were texting essentially a dead number.

It didn't show the icon for the message status, same as any other signal message?

...much like iMessage.
