I was happy that they removed 3D Touch because some stuff was simply inaccessible to iPhone SE users.

People here like to say that BigCo has ruined the independent web and that everything is now siloed and blablabla but the truth is that running an independent website fucking sucks in many regards

Exactly, sorry the current solutions don't live up to ideals, but if there's no better then we're already doing the ideal thing

Someone should go to the EU parliament and tell those busybodies that.

I have also enjoyed and developed for irc a lot, but it's time to move on.

Move on to what, though? Please don't say Slack or Discord.

I'm rooting for Matrix, personally.

Matrix is still kinda rough though. And there is no real lightweight homeserver implementation yet that I could find. Client situation is not much better. Maybe I am not the target audience, but I just want a simple, lightweight and minimalist client. The only thing that comes close is gomuks and maybe the matrix-plugin for weechat (a irc client), but both are extremely buggy right now for me.

Try Dendrite. It is the light server you are looking for.

For a minimalist client try weechat.

Have you done a Synapse -> Dendrite migration? I'd like to check it out, but there's a strong temptation to just leave things alone now that I have a working Synapse installation.

Maybe you should have a look at the XMPP internet standard.

Being a hermit.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. But IRC still has a place in the modern _hacker_ landscape.

How much does that cost?

$8.5 million according to a sibling comment.

Why is table.html loaded as an external resource instead of being in index.html proper?

I can't remember why I did that, probably to keep the data separate from the rest of the code.

The technique used means that it always takes a while to load it, as it’s reloading it after every change, which is generally taking around two seconds for me. You make it still worse by using 'change' and 'keyup' events, so any key press (e.g. left/right arrow) triggers it. It should use the 'input' event.

Even if it were done as a separate page, it should still be shown or hidden via the CSS display property in order to avoid this reloading.

Thanks for the tip!

This comment needs to be accompanied by a soyjak.

Sorry, what was that? I have a job and a wife and kids so I'm not always up on the latest internet memes.

It's one of a set of image macros people with no personality use to express their feelings on something. Like an emoji, but it signals the user is insufferable and hangs out with equally obnoxious people. Often paired with that frog that was so abused by twits that the comic's creator killed the character off.

Pepe is still a beautiful soul if you ask me. He didn't deserve all that awfulness that happened in his name.

Safari has a very low limit of tabs open. I don't manage the tabs of my phone at all, I just let them pile up, and eventually I always hit the limit. Thankfully there's an option that automatically deletes all tabs that you haven't opened in a month.

Mobile Safari's limit is 500 tabs, including on the iPad. When you then try to open another tab, the options are:

* close tabs not opened in the past month

* close all tabs

* cancel

It's not a big dialog box. If you misclick "close all tabs," there's no "are you sure?" confirmation. You can recover 200 or so.

I've filed feedback / issue / bugs about this.

Your iphone 6s is probably faster than the average android phone sold today.

The desktop client is, to me, not as performant as it should be. Many actions take several hundred milliseconds when it's obvious that they could be much faster.
