Mastodon doesn’t support ads, but since it’s FOSS, you could add it yourself.

However, if people find value in your instance, they will donate. For example, see Fosstodon (which even has an excess amount of funds):

BirdsiteLIVE does this

Looks like https://crazymax.dev/diun/notif/script/ would be useful for that.

Personally, since I’m a big fan of RSS, I’d set up email in Diun and send it to an email generated by https://kill-the-newsletter.com/

Some options I know of are Liberapay [0], OpenCollective [1], and GitHub Sponsors [2]. Best way would probably be to view each FOSS project’s page and see which they accept. A little tedious but you can set a recurring donation and forget about it. There’s also sometimes an option to discover projects you can donate to like on OpenCollective.

bitwarden_rs has been renamed to vaultwarden

For me, it only broke websites when I had the extra options enabled in settings (enabled by default). I’d recommend turning them all off and trying to use it again

Brave is working on their own (eventually paid) search engine https://brave.com/brave-search/

Some off the top of my head are Alacritty (terminal emulator), exa (ls alternative), bat (cat alternative), and dog (dig alternative). Discord is rewriting a lot of their services from Go to Rust [0]. I personally built a CLI text editor in Rust [1] (very early development).

Small erratum: Your first link describes re-writing a back-end service from go to rust; the first-party Discord client is Electron.
