iOS 27 came out a month ago, and 27.2 is currently in beta, so buying this device does require being on the bleeding edge.

I'd also add that 26 was not universally well-received, so there were a lot of holdouts who are still running the previous version

It’s fairly safe to say that every user who still didn’t upgrade to 27 by now, has made an active choice to postpone the upgrade.

> every user who still didn’t upgrade to 27 by now, has made an active choice to postpone the upgrade

Goodness no. Anyone who upgrades into a new major version before at least the .1 or .2 update is asking for a world of bugs, and is pretty much by definition an early adopter.

The HomeView has a 1:1 display, the Duo has 1:1.4 displays. Not really similar. Although I would expect any devs (had there been a SDK) to start with their iPad apps, which are expected to adapt to different window sizes.

If you're on a Mac, `say -f book.txt -o book.aiff`, no API keys required.

I've updated my video to show the player experience and the quality of the voices:

Dock on the bottom can move between displays. Dock on the left/right is stuck on the leftmost/rightmost display, which can be annoying if you regularly switch between laptop-only and laptop-plus-external-displays layouts.

A typical desktop OS runs ~100 processes before you get to run anything. Even if you would delegate one core to system stuff, most programs are multi-threaded, so you are going to run out of cores quickly.

Yeah but the OS I'm speaking of would not be a typical OS.

Is it a good thing to have so many processes that the user doesn't understand and often isn't even aware of?

If it's a security concern now, think of how bad of a problem it will be after AI is writing most programs that people use.

> Made by a bored dev and his robots. This dev was replaced by his own agents.

Maybe if you hadn't outsourced your job to Claude, you wouldn't be bored. And if you're forced to do so by manglement, why would you also outsource this toy project?

Manglement, heheheh. Thanks for that one, I’m stealing it.

Yeah, let's give up on enforcing laws and rules, because OpenAI and Anthropic shareholders want money.

We did pretty much that for the Sony rootkit didn't we? Thankfully the eBay stalkers revealed where the limit turned out to be.

That would not be without precedent. When we decided that certain internet platforms were too big to moderate, we let them get away with hosting all kinds of illegal content.

I'm sure there are no Chinese models going "rogue". This is the stuff that is getting reported, now imagine what isn't.

The Chinese are not as flush with compute as to afford to just forget a few thousand agents running for a few weeks.

They also aren't the ones screaming about how close they are to destroying the world. They're approaching the tech like building a tool rather than a god.

OpenAI and Anthropic have shown us that they have a strong incentive to leave holes in their systems so they can use them for marketing and regulatory capture.

Little guy China with scarce resources that are not trying to build the same or known for cyber attacks.

Why bother replying if you don't intend to engage in good faith?

I know what good faith looks like from BS and only give back what I receive. Your entire comment history is this: "If the Western AI companies get their way,"

Ah yes, I'm engaging in bad faith because I am opposed to the actions of western AI companies, while you're engaging in good faith because "Chyna bad" regardless of real differences between their approach to this technology and completely ignoring that several incidents were made public by third parties, flawless logic.

Is this a fake dialog, or just the standard system sudo dialog, which used to allow app developers to show an arbitrary reason string?

If it was the standard macOS dialog, an app wouldn't have been able to snoop the password

Why do you think it snooped the password? Top comment says:

> - We never see or store your admin password. The dialog box you see is a native OS X API (i.e. made by Apple).

That's probably because `pass` is a dumb idea if you have a phone or a Windows PC and want to access your passwords there.

There are great clients for both phones and windows machines.

Latitude is only half the picture, when someone wakes up and how they spend their days also matters. I was really unhappy with DST when I had to wake up at an ungodly hour to school in the dark most of the year (except for the few days/weeks in March before the clock change).
