My scariest hike has been in Scotland. You would think that you cannot get lost on mountains without any tree, and yet I did. Thank god I was near the sea and I knew the road was in that direction.

Google maps is absolutely useless once you reach a mountain, whether you have a car, bicycle or by foot. Yet we are losing map reading skills at alarming rate, replacing it with failed mapping technology. I also noticed we are not reading signs anymore once you follow your navigation system, which is treacherous in mountains

matches my observation of people's behaviour. I myself also cut back on alcohol for some years, I don't even have a beer at home.

Yep, and the trend is not in having kids, which is quite worrying as a nation.

Immigration seems to be the answer, but not so easy to pull off. Are there countries that have done this well? I would argue that for a long time, the US has done this quite well until maybe the last decade.

Australia and New Zealand have 30% of population born in other countries. Housing growth seems to be keeping up in my city (Christchurch).

I'm unsure if immigration is a sustainable solution - immigrants also get old and retire. But perhaps it works out because immigrants have more kids than people that were born here?

I'd recommend Australia, for anyone considering moving, because it has better economics and a wider choice of locales and jobs.

Unless you want to Balkanize yourself immigration is probably not the answer.

The US is also probably not the best example because it’s a very different situation. Even in the 19th and 18th centuries natural birth rates accounted for about half of the population growth in the US.

The current projection for the UK is that between 2021 and 2036 immigration will account for 92% of the population growth, and based on the previous 2-3 years this might actually be an underestimate.

Same with my blue Bosch batteries from 2010. They use quality cells

I concur with this nice write up. Your job is now to get leadership's priorities done, identify what will achieve that goal and steer the team towards it.

My advice would be to establish a good relationship with your stakeholders, understand what they want from the team. You are now the go to person in the company representing your team. You should be always up to date with what's being done work wise by your team. Stakeholders will give you a new point of view of where your team is in the environnement. Use this POV to reflect on the usefulness of work done by your team.

Also, I don't believe a team lead should overprotect it's team, as it blurs' one view and can burn some bridges. Your team can definitly fuck up and you should tell them when they do.

Is this really a trend ? It surely is helping a DIY enthusiast to perform a new task, but I doubt it will convert a non manual labour enclined person to do the task. Also these ready made DIY how-tos work for a certain country only and can hardly be made global. E.g Most of american made how-tos make no sense for someone living in Europe

My wife used ChatGPT to fix a garage door opener while I was out. Uploaded a picture, and followed the instructions. She's not a manual labor inclined person by any stretch and knew nothing about garage door openers.

Translations of products are now clearly AI without proof reading. It's so bad you have to switch to english to understand what it is supposed to mean. Even big brands like Microsoft cannot translate properly.

So yes, they save on translation short term, but by making your product unprofessional.

A320 is wider than 737, you really see the difference inside. I always was better seated on low cost a320 than a low cost 737

Deadlines is always about time, or i'm missing something? Did you maybe confuse with dead end?

I initially read "has never met a deadline in his life" as meaning they had never had a task with a deadline. I'm assuming they also read it that way at first, so they're clarifying for anyone else who did the same.

It's both.

He has deadlines. He just chooses to ignore them and has never faced any consequences.

Haa so many memories passing this kebab at the end of the night. I confirm it is the worst I ever tasted, but chips were Ok
