It is an interesting thought though. With the (assumed) improvements in life saving medical procedures coupled with the fact that due to cell phones you're likely going to get help faster than you would have 20 years ago more murders are probably turning into attempted murder. Although I believe all violent crime is way down and if murder was just shifting to attempted murder violent crime would of course remain steady.
