The argument I've heard in the past is that in exchange for the inconvenience of crapware etc., the purchase price of hardware running Windows is subsidized, and that without all the crapware, customers would pay more for their computers. Are there any hard figures on this, or is it just a platitude used by the people who put the crapware on PCs?
