Coming from Europe, what I found incredible at first is the sheer size of some species of bamboo that grow in Southern China. It's really like in the article's illustration, absolutely massive.
I've seen videos of this and frankly it looks terrifying. I am not sure how workers can bring themselves to trust this scaffolding.
An unrelated thing - this article is a pleasure to read and the stylized illustrations and diagrams really make it easy for the reader to understand the content.
