EU Commission opens formal proceedings against TikTok on election risks (europa.eu)

Honestly, this just looks like those in power in the EU, belonging to a coalition and ideology that likes lots of centralized control, cannot tolerate dissent. Romanian citizens choosing to vote for a right leaning person they came to learn about via social media suddenly spurs on vague notions of foreign interference and a hunt to shut down anything that gave the right a political advantage (in this case, TikTok). The DSA is fundamentally not compatible with free societies and it being applied here, as a knee jerk reaction to a recent election outcome, shows the need for reform in the EU

> Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, said: “We must protect our democracies from any kind of foreign interference. Whenever we suspect such interference, especially during elections, we have to act swiftly and firmly. Following serious indications that foreign actors interfered in the Romanian presidential elections by using TikTok, we are now thoroughly investigating whether TikTok has violated the Digital Services Act by failing to tackle such risks. It should be crystal clear that in the EU, all online platforms, including TikTok, must be held accountable.”
