Hey HN,
I'm a software developer from New Zealand, recently relocated to São Paulo (Brazil), where I'll be based indefinitely -- at least until January.
I've spent most of the last year working full-time as a founding developer at a high-growth startup, so I'm taking a break before my next full-time gig.
As a result, I have a lot of free time, and I want to use it to broaden my skills and help people I usually wouldn’t.
So, I’m keen to get involved in anything with an cool, experimental or socially-beneficial angle.
Non-profit/open-source is preferred, but I’m also happy to help with people’s sidegigs or early-stage startups.
I’m looking for diversity — I want to do a bunch of small hackathon-style projects, quick fixes, etc.
Does anyone have (or know someone who has) a project that I could help with?
I'm good at most technical things:
- Websites incl. basic SEO/SMO
- Shell scripts and automation
- DNS & domain management
- Proofs of concept and MVPs
- Technical writing incl. tutorials & translations
- Data scraping and visualisation
- Project planning and estimation
- Technical interviews, quote review
A recent video I posted on LinkedIn about this: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7269424508296388608/
To be clear, I'm not looking to sell anything. I’m looking to decompress.
I enjoy working with new ideas. I enjoy doing things I’m relatively weak at, like sales and project planning. I enjoy projects that immediately ‘give back’ something (even though I realise many for-profit projects indirectly make the world a better place.)
And as a former founder, I get a satisfaction from helping others with their bootstrapped startups and sidegigs.
Getting a couple mini-projects under my belt would be the perfect way for me to cap off 2024 and head into 2025 feeling refreshed.
So please, don’t be a stranger…
If you’ve got a cool project and need tech help — even something that’s only tech-adjacent — I’ll be more than happy to help.
