Ask HN: How to understand containerization and container orchestration?
3 points by shivajikobardan 7 days ago | hide | past | favorite | discuss
I've progressed through Linux command line, bash scripting, and static website hosting. When I jumped into Docker and Kubernetes, I hit a learning roadblock. I'm seeking guidance on:

1. What foundational skills should I master before diving into Docker and Kubernetes?

2. What does a real DevOps engineer actually do beyond what can be learned through ChatGPT tutorials or Google copy-paste solutions?

My background is in scripting and basic server management, but the container orchestration world feels overwhelming. I want to understand the practical, day-to-day responsibilities and the genuine skills required to be an effective DevOps engineer.

Example say I want to learn jenkins, I can just google/chatgpt the pipeline and refine it for my needs. That's all. Is this devops? This doesn't sound to me like a job that will pay high in future and where your experience is valued upon.

I genuinely don't think these devops engineer will exist for a long time, not even 10 years.
