Is this implying that the hospitalizations are because of the landing and not because they spent months in space?


Most likely a hard landing with some coming away with bruising or a minor concussion. Happens frequently on returning Soyuz capsules (IIRC 1/3rd of landings result in an injury of some kind), but first I've heard of it happening on a US capsule.
