Ask HN: How is the job market for remote SWE jobs?

My current company is a hybrid company where upper management is really putting the screws to remote employees. No team transfers for remote employees which in turn leads to stagnation and lack of career development. Enforced RTO is coming up for non remote employees and I fear it’s only a matter of time for all employees.

How is the job market for remote first companies? Working remote has been hugely beneficial for myself and my family and I’m really looking to work remote someplace where I’ll also be able to progress in my career.

The market is absolute crap right now.

It depends on your qualifications and area. Its pretty competitive at the low to mid end even for experienced folks with so many layoffs having happened over the past 3 years. If you're in ML, have a top degree/good experience its pretty open. Standards are high.

Not much of a diff between remote first companies, thats more of a culture thing. Both the best and worst companies are all doing RTO, and the middle there's a bunch who are doing fine remote and others who are doing fine less remote.

AI is fast eating remote SWE jobs

Is your AI somehow better than mine? Because I couldn't get mine to write even a basic parser yesterday.

I think nocode/lowcode is what is eating remote SWE jobs (mainly freelancing but that's how most remote jobs would start before pandemic).

Don’t get the relationship with remote jobs. If AI is replacing us(huge if)… why does it matter if the setup is remote or office-based?

Yes, like fast food kill slow food ?

would love to know which AI-tools are these?
