Ask HN: Is there any ad supported LLM or LLM product?

I'm wondering why LLMs haven't gone the we search way of being ad supported and widely available, instead of a freemium model. This seems scalable and extensible to many different sub use cases of LLMs. Is it just really hard to embed ads in LLM responses? I can see perplexity doing this 'easily', but also everyone else.

Does a pro licence for eg. ChatGPT 4 allow "sub" selling? If so, you could trivially integrate with Google Ads or something.

Though, I hate you for even bringing the idea up (j/k, as long as there is a paid, no-ad option, I am happy with "free" ad-supported products too).

interesting. 'startup idea'.

Well once ads kick in, Idk if there is a way to keep a pro sub - google certainly doesn't have one.

Google Search doesn't, but Youtube does. Google Mail kinda does too.

The per-user revenue of ads is much, much lower than the per-user cost of LLM access.

but wouldn't that normalize over time? I think this may already not be true for gpt-4o-mini?
