Show HN: I created quick and simple file converter and resizer – Converay (converay.com)

Hi, I'm a web dev and often need to convert/resize media files to get a better lighthouse/gtmetrix score.

I wanted some tool to show the size after conversion as well as compare it with original.

I feel Converay tool just does that. It's quick, simple & intuitive

I'm using it on my own for my day-to-day tasks, but if you have any suggestions for future releases - I'm all ears.

Cheers

Seems nice and simple. I like it.

Here are some suggestions: -On Privacy Policy page, you have following: "All image conversions and resizing happen right on your own device". Image? What about video? I mean, I know, I checked but it's undefined. I would just go with "All conversions and...". -Similarly, "We don't process or store any of your converted files on our servers". What about original files? Again, I would go with just "any of your files". -Add support for pasting file or image (like copied from another program or screenshot etc.). -When comparing images, you might add two additional "modes" of comparing: 1. images are one over another and you can use "slider" to reveal/show one or the other (i don't know name of that, but you've probably already seen it). 2. One is over another and on a button click (or key press) they are switched. This is useful for very similar images of same size (like with different degree of compression). Fast switching between them lets your brain pick up difference.

I hope this helps.

Thanks it definitely does. I'll rework the policy. The comparison suggestion - really great. I was thinking about it but what if a user changed sizes? I can't put one on top of another. So I'll probably add couple comparison modes. Thanks for the feedback

Nice very minimal and fast!

FYI if you convert to JPG, it will download a file with a .bin extension.

Would it be possible to retain the original file name + some extra info, for example:

I 'upload' the file space.png and I convert it to jpg, 1080p, medium and then the file name would be something like: space-1080p-medium.jpeg

Thanks, I'll implement those features and check the jpg file issue

Love it - one of the fastest I have tried recently. Would share with my team. I like the space theme as well - pretty cool. Small feedback - this could be highlighted better "So far we've transmuted 783 files, reshaped 2,855,666,777 cosmic bytes, & condensed 2,170,239,509 bytes of stardust." - I almost missed it, but its good validation of the work that has been done.

Well done.

Just a slight suggestion into backlog: I would change font color in dark mode into lighter grey.

Will do, thanks

Love it!

reshrink.com is available for $10/yr. Might be a better name?

hey, thanks for suggesting. I'll probably grab it. Is the whole space theme too much?

I love the space theme. It's beautiful. The only 2 things I'd change would be the name and also have a link to the git repo on the site.

I could really use this a lot. I have a never ending stream of content to convert and minimize.

Hey, thanks, I will add github repo. Any issues so far when converting? I'm trying to improve conversion speed right now

Is there any chance you can add an input to the URL of a public git repo (for example I type in "https://github.com/breck7/breckyunits.com" or something), and then I press [Shrink], and you clone that repo, and minimize all the media, and sent a patch/pull request so I can one click approve?

I would pay money for that.

Wow that's a great idea. I'll put it in my to do list

Suggestions: make the default the highest compression:

The highest compression means the lowest size, right?

Yes

I love the look of it right now
