Firefox "Bug" Leaked Saved Logins Across Profiles and Caused Break Up (2005) (bugzilla.mozilla.org)

I don't think Firefox caused the breakup.

This tells the story of a cheater who got caught out by their poor opsec.

On a side note, I really appreciate the 19 year-old incel comment[1]. It's disappointing to see the society hasn't /really/ changed all that much in 20 years.

Well at least the profile was only active for one day and lists as "disabled" [1]. Credit to the moderator 19 years ago.

Sad story but I'd argue the bug was just the messenger, not really the cause.

Impressed by the factual tone of reporter given the context.

(Edit: removed quotes around bug, took them from the editorialized HN title but it is a real bug)

It is/was a real bug IMO, and agree they presented all the necessary details. In hindsight it was probably excessive to add so much personal context, since it invites 'help' from well meaning passers by.

Yep, apparently Firefox didn't clear everything that was asked to be cleared, from a quick, distracted read.

The context is not strictly necessary and exposes the private life of the reporter but is interesting to understand the severity or the consequences of a bug. It offers a perspective. (here it's probably too much though, and distracting) I would advise against exposing stuff like this but as a developer I appreciate such context.

Firefox saved someone from an unhappy life.

That's some piece of history right there
