Google's call-scanning AI could dial up censorship by default, experts warn (techcrunch.com)

Google will roll out a feature to have AI listen in on calls but I still can't enable call recording for calls I'm a party to?

You can be sure the call will be monitored for other key phrases and words too. Imagine a new product is released, and Google can tell you that $x more people are talking about it!" along with negative or positive connotations. Naturally, neighbourhood, and other socio-economic related breakdowns.

All anonymized of course, of course.

(For the skeptics, that's precisely what happens with Google email, messages, and even keyboard products.)
