Rooster Teeth Shut Down by Warner Bros. Discovery (deadline.com)

That's sad to hear - "Red vs. Blue" really helped to popularize fan machinima - I still recall newspaper articles about US soldiers stuck in Iraq comparing themselves to the RvB characters stuck in Blood Gulch. The series was even popular enough for its voice actors to make it back into the original Halo franchise that it was based off of.

I'm amazed to hear that RvB made it ~20 years; what a run!

I know one man does not make a studio. But Monty Oum (Red vs Blue and creator of RWBY) was peak Rooster Teeth for me.

It was a good run. Being acquired by a major like WB really means this niche internet studio succeeded beyond it's wildest dreams.

It may be getting shut down now, but I certainly remember the earlier niche days.

TikTok and the rest of social media really did big media in.

People have their own long tail on social that is more satisfying (?) (addicting?) than the niche stuff big media could come up with.

Rooster Teeth was one of those early meme groups who took Halo videos and just dubbed over them with silly voice acting.

You are looking at one of the earliest small studios of the internet age in this story. WB lives on, but the (former) small internet group is being shut down.

Rooster Teeth only seemed big, because of lack of options. There was probably 0.1% of content on the internet back in ~2005 compared to now.

These days something like RvB made by friends in a basement would just get lost in an endless sea of TT/YT cringe drivel.

Does this also mean the end of Death Battle? :-(
