Ask HN: Do you have any guidlines for compensation?

After 11 years of engineering in the mechanical realm for small, private companies, I am in the interview process for a very large public company. This could be quite a change for me, as I've only had an annual salary. No equity or stock and no bonuses to speak of.

I'm searching for any guidelines to help me understand what's being offered, and perhaps pointing out any pitfalls in the negotiation process that I should be aware of.
